    Hacked GH2 12,800 ISO

    November 9, 2011 by Patrick

The GH2 is an incredible DSLR. Even in it’s most simple form, it’s quite impressive. Yet one of it’s greatest features comes from a series of hacks created by Vitaliy Kiselev. In one of the latest releases (3.63,) the firmware removes a cap on ISO settings. The people over at EOSHD decided to take the GH2 out at night and test out one of the new ISOs, 12,800.

Normally, one would think shooting at 12,800 ISO your footage would be completely worthless. The amount of noise would make an image difficult to see but with this new hack 12,800 looks great. Sure, there is definitely noise but at the same time it offers an interesting level of grain without being overwhelming.

I can’t believe what people are pulling off wit these hacks. It’s really unbelievable. I’m excited to see where these lead to. To check out Kiselev’s hacks, check out his site here. Although, we have to say – use at your own risk. Messing around with firmware can lead to a bricked camera.

First Step Taken in GH2 Hacking

    May 4, 2011 by Patrick

    Let the hacking begin!

EOSHD is reporting that Vitaliy Kiselev announced that he has successfully dumped the GH2 firmware. Once the firmware is dumped, the process beings to reengineer the firmware to create a new one (think the GH13.) It still could take a bit for everything to be figured out, but it’s good to know that a hack may be on the way in the near future.

The GH13 and the Magic Lantern hacks really increased the usability and features of GH1 and the 5D Mark II. So needless to say, I’m excited to see what they come up with for the GH2.

    Hack on AF100? “Definitely Possible”

    January 24, 2011 by Patrick

With the first firmware release for the Panasonic AF-100 (it fixes some SD card issues,) Panasonic has opened up the AF-100 for whatever hackers can come up with. The unencrypted firmware is similar to that of the Lumix GH2 according to hacker Vitaliy Kiselev. Kiselev worked on the original hack for the GH1 and seems driven to crack the AF-100 as well. The AF-100 is already such an exciting camera (and possible game changer,) I’m interested in seeing what he can come up with to possibly elevate it’s status.

Thanks to EOSHD for the info.

Magic Lantern 550d Update, December 12th from Renny Hayes on Vimeo.

Philip Bloom is reporting the release of Magic Lantern firmware for the Canon T2i (550d in Europe.) Like the Canon 5D mkII before it, the Magic Lantern hack adds some great features like audio bars, zebra stripes and gain control. They claim to be working on a hack for the 60D as well, which we are extremely excited about.

Here’s a video with some great info about the hack.

For more info check out Magic Lantern.
