    GH2 Firmware Update

    December 7, 2011 by Patrick

Panasonic released the latest official firmware for the Lumix GH2. The update allows the camera to start shooting 30p (25p for PAL.) Check out all the updates:

Updating firmware will erase any hacks that you’ve used on the GH2. Rumor has it, that creating/converting hacks for v.11 might take a bit. So, if you’re planning on using hacks you’ll want to stay away from updating for the time being. If you do choose to update, it seems people have been having luck using ptool to revert their updated GH2’s back to v.10. Again, all of this is done at your own risk. Hacks can be destructive, so I have to warn you.

    Sony F3 Firmware Update

    June 6, 2011 by Patrick

Sony just released firmware 1.1 for the Sony F3. This update adds a bunch of features that had been talked about in the past.

    1. You can browse the menu with the S&Q Dial in addition to original menu wheel.

    2. The F3 now has simultaneous HDMI and SDI outputs. This will allow you to use 3rd party view finders and works in all formats.
    3. They’ve included a new metadata filing system.

    4. Live dual link outputs in 444 and 442. This allows you to use both SDI outputs when working in Dual link. This gives you two more clean channels to use with external recorders.

    5. They’ve also improved the ND filter system. You can adjust the colors in each of the filters.

    6. Ability to use the upcoming S-Log update (when they become available) is also included in the update.

You can download the update here.

    Canon t3i/600D Firmware Update

    May 18, 2011 by Patrick

If you own a t3i/600D its time for an update. Canon latest firmware (1.01) fixes a couple of issues:

    1. Clarifies the feature guide description of the digital zoom function for movie-shooting that appears on the camera’s LCD monitor.
    2. Fixes a phenomenon in which, in rare cases, a computer connected to the camera with a USB cable cannot recognize the camera.

The download is available over at Canon UK.

    UPDATE: 7D Firmware Update

    April 20, 2011 by Patrick

Canon released the latest update for the Canon EOS 7D yesterday. Not really a major update, it fixes a few bugs. 5D MarkII Team had a nice run down of all the changes:

    Changes in this firmware:

Firmware Version 1.2.5 incorporates the following improvements and fixes.

    1. Fixed a rare phenomenon in which there were rare cases where movie files taken could not be opened when repeatedly shooting movies with specific CF cards.

    2. Fixed a rare phenomenon in which there were cases where “Err 02″ appeared when repeatedly shooting still images with specific CF cards.

    3. Fixed a phenomenon that occurred when using high-capacity (32 GB or greater) CF cards: If either a CF card with only a little available space remaining or the battery was removed and then reinserted into the camera, and then the user attempted to start shooting movies immediately, shooting would stop.

    4. Improved the writing/reading speeds when using UDMA 7-compatible CF cards.

    5. Fixed a phenomenon that occurred when custom function C.Fn 4-1 was set to assign IS start to the AF stop button on the lens: When used with lenses that do not have an AF stop button, the IS function would not work.

    6. Corrected some mistakes in the menu screens displayed in Arabic and Portuguese. (This applies to models in overseas markets. The models for the Japanese market do not display those languages.)

The Version 1.2.5 firmware being released this time is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.2.4. If the camera’s firmware is already Version 1.2.5, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Note that cameras with the Version 1.2.5 firmware (and also Versions 1.2.0 through 1.2.4) cannot be downgraded to a previous firmware version (such as Version 1.1.0 or earlier).

    UPDATE
The update is now available for download here. I’m not quite sure why it was taken down in the first place, but you can assume there was most likely a bug involved.

Right now the update is available over at Canon UKI’ve received news that the upload is currently down, hopefully it will be back soon. Thanks to 5D Mark II Team for the heads up.

    Canon EOS 60D Firmware Update

    March 30, 2011 by Patrick

Last week Canon released the latest firmware for the 60D. The update changed the name of the “art filters” to “creative filters” and fixed some very specific bugs:

    2. Fixes a phenomenon where the camera may operate abnormally when it is set to Quick Mode AF during Live View shooting immediately after capturing an image with the C.Fn II-1 Long exposure noise reduction setting set to [2: On] and a shutter speed setting of 5 seconds or more.
    3. Fixes a phenomenon where the camera may operate abnormally when after Live View shooting, the remote switch on the EOS Utility screen is pressed to immediately start movie-shooting. This phenomenon only occurs when the camera is connected to a compatible personal computer and the Remote Live View function of EOS Utility software is being used

Visit Canon’s 60D site to download the update.
